About Me
Hi my name is Ben Sawyers. I'm an award-winning journalist from Memphis, Tennessee.
In May 2022, I graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Strategic Media with an emphasis in advertising and public relations from the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. In both my academics and extracurriculars, I gained skills that prepared me for a career in broadcast journalism. As Station Manager of the student-run TV station, UATV, I led a team of seven staff members and produced a newscast that won multiple awards, including the NATAS Mid-America College Award for Best Newscast. Outside of producing, I edited, anchored, reported and shot video for daily, 30-minute newscasts.
After graduating, I started work at WATN, ABC24 Memphis as a Multi-Platform Producer. In my position, I produce daily newscasts and digital content, including short and long-form web stories, social media posts and the occasional broadcast package.
After two years in Memphis, I began working at WFAA in Dallas as a Senior Digital Content Producer. Through my time at WFAA, I've honed my skills in SEO, long-form video editing for our streaming app, live stream production, social media engagement and, of course, AP-style journalistic writing.
My articles have been viewed millions of times with topics ranging from local crime to sports to state politics and beyond.
